What Is This Game?

Spellbound Spirits is a Twin-Stick Shooter prototype developed as part of a one week design challenge. You take control of Hearts, The Collector, a warlock of the Royal Order. By utilizing his Harvester's Scythe and a throw able spell-deck, you're able to take down monsters and use their own abilities to your advantage. I specifically challenged myself further by introducing a relatively simple mechanic, hoping to focus on elements that were key to core game play and highlight the strengths of the design's core premise.

Controls (Xbox One):

  • Left stick to move
  • Left bumper to dash (can dash through specific layered objects)
  • Escape to quit

The "R" key on the keyboard restarts the scene. 

Things that I managed to get working:

  • Door switches (doors have an idea of "switches" and the idea that they need to be activated in order to open)
  • Falling into pits kills you (kill height based), you'll respawn in Room 1 at a fixed point
  • The early "cutscene" of the floor disappearing in the falling room.
  • room-based camera system.

All assets created using maya 2018, roughly to 1m scale.

The project was built in Unity 2019.2
